LCCA Statement on Anti-Asian Violence

LCCA Statement on Anti-Asian Violence

Lincoln Chinese Cultural Association (LCCA) is angered and deeply saddened by the killing of eight individuals, notably including six women of Asian descent, in Georgia this past week.

Our Association strongly reprehends these deplorable actions which have directly targeted these Asian American women and have detrimentally impacted the entire Asian American community across the U.S. This belligerent act heightens the long-existing and growing sense of fear and hostility felt by many in the Asian American community directly as a result of xenophobic discrimination of Asian-owned businesses and hate crimes against Asian American community members.

As such, The LCCA puts forth the following demands: (1) that the Federal Government, community members, and local law enforcement agencies take action to address the increase in anti-Asian crimes and to ensure the safety of both Asian Americans and Asian-owned and operated businesses; (2) that Asian American community groups band together to fight anti-Asian crimes; and (3) that federal and local law enforcement authorities take immediate steps to charge and prosecute the perpetrator(s) of these killings in Georgia.

The Asian American community deserves the feeling of safety for their lives to the same degree as all communities in America. This heinous act sheds light on the fact that this is not true. We demand change.
